Adaptation of digestive enzymes to dietary protein, carbohydrate and fibre levels and influence of protein and carbohydrate quality in Penaeus vannamei larvae (Crustacea, Decapoda) ArchiMer
Le Moullac, Gilles; Van Wormhoudt, A; Aquacop, Aquacop.
Activity of digestive enzymes (trypsin, chymotrypsin and amylase) was studied in relation with food in Penaeus vannamei larvae first stages. Microparticles containing casein involved the decrease of soluble protein content and enzyme activities. Specific trypsin activity but not chymotrypsin was correlated (p<1%) to casein level between 10 and 60% in microparticles. Cellulose fibres in food seemed to have little effect on digestive enzymes. Starch, between 1 and 20% in microparticles, had no influence on specific amylase activity. The effect of different feeding conditions were also tested on growth. No clear relationship between growth and enzyme is established since only trypsin is concerned in the case of a casein dose effect in the food. The protein...

ArchiMer
Safi, Georges.
The common cuttlefish Sepia officinalis, is a major exploited marine resource in the English Channel. It has strong seasonal and interannual variations in recruitment. Mechanisms affecting the renewal of the stock by the arrival of new “recruits” and their number need to be better understood. Thus the study of the spatial and temporal variability of “pre-recruits” physiological characteristics was conducted in four spawning sites of the Channel [i.e. Agon Coutainville (FR), Baie de Seine (FR), Selsey (UK) and Torbay (UK)]. The studied parameters were the eggs quality and hatching rate then, the digestive and immune performance of juveniles in relation to local environmental conditions. English eggs have a delayed hatching time and higher hatching rate when...

Hily, A.
Examinations of alimentary tract and digestive tubules after feeding give evidence of continuous digestive process in juveniles of Ruditapes philippinarum . Histoenzymologic study of digestive tract suggests important intracellular enzymatic activities in stomacal epithelium, digestive gland and intestinal cells. Main part of intracellular digestion occurred in digestive cells by lysosyme associated with vacuolar system.

Tovar, Dariel.
The interest in probiotics for aquaculture is increasing rapidly. In the present work we evaluated the potential of some yeast to induce the larvae gut maturation in sea bass larvae Dicentrarchus labrax. The production of polyamines putrescine, spermidine and spermine was quantified in ten yeast strains using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Afterwards, fluorescently labelled yeast adhesion to the intestine of sea bass larvae and the spotted sand bass (Paralabrax maculatofasciatus) was evaluated by fluorescent microscopy. Two of them, CBS 8339 strain (Debaryomyces hansenii) and X2180 strain (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) produce the polyamines of our interest. The same strains showed the best adhering capabilities to the sea bass and spotted sand...

Galgani, Francois; Benyamin, Y; Vanworhmoudt, A; Cecaldi, J.
Proteolytic enzymes of hepatopancreas of six species of peneids (Penaeus kerathurus, P. japonicus, P. monodon, P. stylirostris, P. merguiensis and P. vannamei ) have been studied. Some of their physiological variations have been characterised. Increase in acclimation temperature of crustaceans enhances increase of specific activities of proteases. Variations of salinity does not modify specific activities, nor quantities of trypsin, nor electrophoretic patterns of these different proteases.
